"The urge to create is innate, an

undeniable, eternally emergent force"

Joris Hoftijzer was born in Middelburg,

The Netherlands in 1971, and grew up in

the Dutch Capital of Television, Hilversum.

In 1990 he went to study biochemistry

at the University of Amsterdam.

In 1991 he moved to Singapore where he attended the Nanyang academy of Fine Arts

and studied charcoal portrait drawing. He is self-taugh in all other art forms.

From 1992 to 2000 he lived in Amsterdam and obtained his MSc in Chemistry in 1996. During his student years he continued drawing, and took up sound design and digital music composition, often composing more than 30 hours a week.

A seven month stay at the University of North Carolina, being cut off from his musical instruments, sparked the beginning of his interest in photography and graphic design.

Joris Hoftijzer moved to Ibiza (Spain) for 7 months in 2001, and then to London in 2002. Working in marketing and living in pre-Olympic Hackney Wick with many international artists, he continued to compose, expanded his interest in graphic design, digital image art,  photography, and took up web-design, furniture design and videography.

Joris moved to Brussels (Belgium) in 2009, where he lives and works in his studio, with a creative focus on sculpture and photography.

Only as recent as 2014 he has decided his life-long passion for the arts should become a full time occupation at last, and began to seek visibility. After a few local exhibitions and the acceptance of 4 artworks at a Louiza Auktion art auction house, Joris is now fully dedicated to the arts.
